I've watched since 95' and the excitement of the sport has remained the same as more rules have been implemented. Breaking fingers can result in permanent damage quite easily. Headbutts commonly cause concussions. Back of the head strikes are dangerous. It's still realistic in that skilled fighters don't need illegal techniques to finish the fight and they don't train them. Boxing and mma can co-exist. Both are realistic. The majority of the fighters still fighting in Brazil will never be good enough to make it to America, but make no mistake, that is their goal. Also, Vale Tudo is not the only place with those rules. Spirit MC in Korea, for example, still allows many things that "American MMA" does not. That being said, Spirit MC, Vale Tudo, are still the minor leagues.
