American MMA is boring and unrealistic compared to Vale Tudo, isn’t that MMA’s complaint about boxing?
Here’s a brief description from wikipedia about Vale Tudo:
Critics argue that vale tudo shows should all adopt the much safer mixed martial arts rules that have developed and gained athletic sanctioning in America. Supporters of vale tudo counter that the sanctioned mixed martial arts style that developed in America is now so vastly different from true vale tudo, that it should be treated as an entirely different sport.
So my question is: there are so many MMA fans who think boxing is boring and unrealistic in a "real" fight, however, do those people realize that their MMA sport is now a sport with many rules that makes it boring at times and unlike real combat (though safer)? As is, no strikes to the back of the head, gloves (vale tudo can be bareknuckle), no small digit manipulation, headbutts and many other very effective (though dangerous) techniques that are banned in MMA that often result in boring fights where a fighter turtles but can’t be hurt because of these limitations? Shouldn’t MMA fans not complain about boxing for it not being "realistic"?
MMA.Jimmy – you are either a retard or you have to have everything spelled out for you. Mixed martial arts has no international sanctioning body, rules may vary between promotions. Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts is used in the US (codified by New Jersey State Athletic Commission, used by Nevada and CA), and that’s what is known to Americans. No, it’s not defined as American MMA, but I think most people can figure it out.
I am a boxer and I train with MMA guys and respect them. I was trying to point out to ignorant MMA fanboys who do not respect boxing that there is another perspective.

"Boring" is a matter of perspective. While old-school Vale Tudo fights have few limitations on their rules, most of them also ended up having a complete lack of action after a few minutes. You get 20-minute hug fests with one guy holding another in guard, pinning his arms down, while the other guy throws the occasional headbutt or body punch. Punches aren’t thrown that much later in the fight because the hand has swollen up and been broken.
I’m an MMA guy who respects the science of boxing, although I don’t follow the sport that much. I challenge anyone to watch "The Thrilla in Manila" and claim boxing is boring.
Ok you ignorant turd, there is no such thing as American MMA"
and although your question is not original,Ill explain it,sure,Boxing can be boring,so Can MMA,there are more rules in Boxing right? as soon as the guys clinch up after there 100th round when already no ones watching except the fans who regret paying for it,they get broken up right? you cant kick..cant go to the ground..cant use knees…or elbows.. lets see MMA’s rules other than the obviouss …..No hits to the back of the head. I disagree,I think Boxing is very street effective, for gods sakes,Boxing is incorporated in MMA. Its plenty realistic, the beuity is,no one really will kick in a fight, but it makes you better for Knowingng how to,and Kicks are a bit worse then punches ( to some degree, being kicked in the solor plex is no day at the beach) when the fightersrs turtle that leaves them open for whats called a rear naked choke,or you can tuck and roll out. I wont toss lingo with you,you should learn you stuff,Both are great sports, and both street effective.
Funny, you gave me a thumbs down, even though my answer was Legit 100%. wanna know why? because I do MMA,and my training facility is run by a Kickboxing Muay Thai Champ, and his mentor is a Boxing champ,All you have done was spew hate on somthing that is already being compared to a 300 year old sport.
and Mr.R Mccain has revived his opinion on the UFC,and MMA,he even attended an event himself. Besides,America is in a crysis atm.. do you realy think taking down a sport (somthing America desriptly needs due to fattys) is at the top of his list if he did hate it anymore?
Look at it this way with the rules as it is the "sport" of MMA has grown into a international sensation preforming in sold out arenas. Without the rules the "sport" would be held in small gyms with small payouts in front of a crowd of a few hundred people.
No Holds Barred promotions has been and will be shut down by politicians like McCain.
The rules in modern mixed martial arts are set in place to protect fighters safety. I’ve watched since 95′ and the excitement of the sport has remained the same as more rules have been implemented.
Breaking fingers can result in permanent damage quite easily. Headbutts commonly cause concussions. Back of the head strikes are dangerous. It’s still realistic in that skilled fighters don’t need illegal techniques to finish the fight and they don’t train them.
Boxing and mma can co-exist. Both are realistic.
Bottom line, the best fighters in the world fight in American MMA promotions. The majority of the fighters still fighting in Brazil will never be good enough to make it to America, but make no mistake, that is their goal.
Also, Vale Tudo is not the only place with those rules. Spirit MC in Korea, for example, still allows many things that "American MMA" does not.
That being said, Spirit MC, Vale Tudo, are still the minor leagues.

MMA isn’t unrealistic compared to Vale Tudo (which is a rule set, not a different sport), there are just a couple of moves one cannot execute. MMA still incorporates all the ranges of fighting, punching, kicking, elbows, takedowns, grappling, ground striking, joint manipulation, etc. Boxing only focuses on the perfection of punching, which is very useful and boxing is still a lot of fun to watch. The accusation that MMA is unrealistic has some merit, because there are referees, but it is closer to the situations of a real fight than boxing.
MMA is set so the fighter is safe from permanent injury. Losing an eye, having your balls kicked into your stomach, and taking shots on the ground when you can not defend yourself properly. Vale Tudo is as real as it gets. That’s the true test of kill or be killed. When vale tudo fighters fight they know that they could get severely injured. I know if the salaries got switched there wouldn’t be a lot of mma fighters here in America rushing to fight in these Brazilian vale tudo fights.
May well 29, 2010, is proceeding to host a single of the most hard and brutal celebration of the month when some of the greatest amateur wrestlers in UFC will carry on each other in UFC 114. It is heading to take location at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. If you fail to attain Nevada in time, you do not have to be disappointed, as you can simply observe UFC 114 on-line.
